how about electricity? People got along fine without electricity for thousands and thousands of years.
We hold these truths to be selfevident,

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men,
Deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. Although this excerpt is obviously from the Declaration of Independence, the Second Amendment of the Constitution acknowledges that it's our right to keep and bear arms -- a right that may not be infringed.
Why is this? Only by keeping and *gasp* carrying arms may we truly have a chance at preserving life, guarding liberty, and pursuing our happiness (not needs).
In some cases, the gun may even be the thing that brings us happiness!
