In 1860, the Southern states imported $346 million dollars worth of goods, $240 million in Northern goods and re-exports, and $106 in direct imports.

In his book "Lifeline of the Confederacy: Blockade Running During the Civil War", Stephen Wise gives the value of imports landed at southern ports as $24.5 million and not the $106 million you claim. Quite a bit of difference, wouldn't you agree?

Not at all.

Wise is estimating the value of imports shipped directly to Southern ports from Europe to illustrate the extent of the influence of the subject of his book.

The figure I gave is the annual imported goods value to the South from all ports, not just Wilmington, Charleston, Savannah, Mobile, New Orleans, Houston, etc., but including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, etc.
