Looking over Strom's life and following his bio, it seems he was more or less a politican first and the segragation views he had were mearly his finger in the wind. He contradicted himself over and over again, from his days as a school superintendent who made it a goal to educate blacks and get there scores up ("for county pride of course") to being a laywer who didn't even segregate his own office, to being a judge who ruled against the clan, to being a segragationist canidate and running on that platform repeatedly to being the first senator to hire an african american chief of staff.
