She does deserve much credit. She sounds like a daughter that a man would be lucky to have. It boggles the mind to think that he could consider her a very lovely daughter an also be an arch-segregationist. But the human personality is rife with paradoxes and contradictions.

But the human personality is rife with paradoxes and contradictions.Looking over Strom's life and following his bio, it seems he was more or less a politican first and the segragation views he had were mearly his finger in the wind. He contradicted himself over and over again, from his days as a school superintendent who made it a goal to educate blacks and get there scores up ("for county pride of course") to being a laywer who didn't even segregate his own office, to being a judge who ruled against the clan, to being a segragationist canidate and running on that platform repeatedly to being the first senator to hire an african american chief of staff.
