1 Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way of escape that ye may be able to bear it.
2 Corinthians 12:9 - My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
(While the above may not be verbatim quotes of the statement, "God never gives us more than we can bear," they are sufficient for me.)

I do believe that is the verse people get the saying, but if examined, it is definately not saying "God never gives us more than we can bear". It is saying that God will provide an way to escape (even if it just means running away as fast as you can from temptation). We can definately put ourselfs in the way of trouble that is more than we can bear.
