Herbal remedies are very iffy....they may work for one person and actually exacerbate the condition for another person. I don't think depression or insomnia should EVER be treated with herbal remedies!

Your body is made up of amino acids.
L-Tryptophan is an amino acid.
I invite you to do an engine search on L-tryptophan and ALSO look up www.Moodcure.com

Herbs are a whole other animal. YOU are full of amino acids, It is part of your and my make up. They are building blocks of the body.
