Are any liberal lurkers out there a little depressed? (It isn't an idle or facetious question.) Are you, or they, depressed?
FR is a magic place because it creates community. Kind of like a church, a labor union, a bar, a company, the army, a lunch room or baseball game, I suppose.
Some liberals have views that suggest they want government to restore the sense of community and common destiny that existed in much smaller societies with oral traditions. They would like government to help create a sense of membership and participation. Who can blame them for wanting those things. The only problem is, our government wasn't founded for those purposes.
FR is here to help create community, and is succeeding. So, liberals and FR lurkers, please join us here and discuss something that is NOT politically inflamatory. Do you liberals feel cut off from society, hoping that government can somehow create a sense of community for you? To be the employer of last restort, on whom you can depend for a job and a living? It's not an adversarial question. If you're a liberal and FR lurker, this might be a topic you could post about without bringing down a firestorm of conservative-versus-liberal criticism. And, in the process, you'd get to communicate in a channel like FR. (I'm betting you may believe that communication, even with the so-called political adversaries, is its own reward.)
