Not to turn this into a conversation about myself, but I agree with you that ultimately, it's about getting ourselves out of the doldrums that happen from time to time. The problem gets worse the longer we choose not to try and remove ourselves.

I had cancer until early this year. I'm a young man, younger than the person who committed suicide. I wasn't depressed by that or felt sorry for myself, though I think a lot of the physical tribulations I encountered did make me feel down, just because it's such a pain in the ass working 40 hours a week, in the winter when you're getting your butt kicked by treatment.

Since then, my girlfriend broke up with me. I decided to focus my mind on recovering (cancer really doesn't end with remission. It affects you in so many ways, physical and emotional). I've only gotten depressed lately, after I came down with a nagging case of pneumonia. Don't know why, but I am. And I think I know what will take me out of it. One is ending some bad habits. But I'm dragging my ass on doing so. And that's the worst thing I can do. But I think apathy, like entropy, is one of those things that we're by the laws of nature, predisposed to.

Congratulations. I sense you've grown quite a bit during these tough times. The tough times are what make you grow up. I've matured 20 years in the last year.

Keep up the good work. I'm happy you're beating cancer and becoming more in tuned with your real self as well.

CTID, we have disagreed many times, and I hope the next sentence doesn't sound trite, it's not meant to be.

We all have problems and it is easy to blame other people and circumstances, but you seem to be relying on yourself for your strength in dealing with your problems, that is very admirable and life affirming, and I truly wish you the best of success and health for your future.

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. You must be one tough guy! I hope and pray you can keep your chin up. Breakups and job losses are among the toughest to handle in life. Let me know how you're doing from time to time, and hang in there!

Apathy and entropy are contrary to life. Life is a creative, organizing force in the universe-- the opposite of entropy, as I see it. That said, I suffer from some apathy and entropy, as well. And as I get older, it gets harder!
