The other alternative is that this story is pure disinformation, in an attempt to condition the masses. Or perhaps some tired, sleepy, confused, and scared airmen 3000 miles away from home at Christmas let their imaginations run away from them while in the woods on a foggy December back in 1980 and it is all just a misunderstanding.
