I use the internet over a cable television network. what's the difference? in fact, there will soon be very little difference between the internet and "broadcast" media, since voice and data and video and everything else is going IP.

Then that has to be the objective.
Get conservatives elected. Failing that, deny it to a left-winger who would march in lockstep with Schumer, Durbin, Kenendy, and Hillary.

Should not the ACLU be shouting from the rooftops against this decision? For decades they have extolled themselves as the protector of the first amendment.
The silence tells it all

I agree with Howlin. One of the few she was referring to. Cool...its still a quasi-free country. Enjoy.

Incumbent protection is the name of the game.I've witnessed it first-hand at the local (state) level. Power for its own sake is a powerful drug.

Bush will likely win in a landslide, so to heck with them... That's about the same thing the White House staffers were telling GHW Bush after he banned the importation of so-called 'assault weapons' - 'Gun owners? Where else can they go? Bush will likely win in a landslide, so to heck with them...'
Guess what? Bush didn't win in a landslide.
Don't get me wrong: I like 'Dubyah.' But he made a big mistake on this one, and I hope he deals with it, rather than just saying "to heck with them" like his daddy did...

I don't ever plan to sit idlely by when a bunch of people who never voted for a good man
So you have the voting records of all FReepers? Or is this more mis-speak, forgetfulness, or delusion? Nice martyr complex too you got there. Poor George Bush, everyone betraying him except the brave Howlin and a select few.
You would have been far better off to admit you were wrong about Bush's handling of CFR to begin with. At a website called FreeRepublic, you oughta expect some anger at further erosion of the Constitution. But you tried to make this a GOP infomercial from the get-go. Sorry, it's not selling at the moment. Buy an ad - oops, you better hurry!

Right now, I'm drawing a blank, because I haven't seen ______ done by either party to insure the rights guaranteed us by the first amendment.100 percent in agreement with you.

He didn't give his unqualified seal of approval. He thought that the SCOTUS would overturn it, though he agreed with parts of it.
To: Sabertooth
Perhaps our party will give the strategery a rest and actually make a stand on a principle or two. They're called the stoopid party for a reason.
To: Judith Anne
That isn't a very thoughtful reply on your part. I suggest you attempt to read some of the criticisms before you dismiss these posters as "hysterical."

Yet another "the sky is falling" poster joins this thread. Nice... Well...
I do find it a little interesting how a statement of lament becomes "the sky is falling."
No, I do not believe the sky is falling.
That said, I would be less than forthright if I said I was happy about this ruling. Do I believe that is places far too much power in the hands of the leftist media - yes, I believe that; they will be the only one's allowed political speech in the last 60 days. It remains to be seen whether organizations such as FR will be in the allowed or proscribed categories - one of the interesting things yet to be determined. I have some foreboding about that (hence my Amerika remark), but the Nation has gone through worse (we survived eight years with the 42nd president, went through World War II, and other extremely serious threats to our regime).
I infer from "the sky is falling" that all is lost. No, it isn't. The country is a bit off track (well, maybe more than a bit), and I believe the Supreme Court is incorrect in how it weighed the First Amendment against the right of Congress to determine the manner of elections--but the fact that I can still say these things and not be sent to the gulag (I am hopeful that will not be the case in my lifetime and I expect to live a good many years yet) means there is hope.
Is it Amerika - yes, I think it is, insofar as the socialists and leftists that don't necessarily have the rights of individuals in their best interests at heart are in charge.
Can it be fixed? Yes, but it will take a lot of work. I am sure I don't have the quote quite right, but evil exists where good men do nothing. There are a lot of good men still in the country - and America can (and I remain optomistic, maybe incurably - who knows?) be brough back.
No, the sky indeed remains where it has always been. Above all, and common to all. God's beacon to everyone who cares to look - equal to everyone. As should be the Nation.
May God bless America, and help the free and righteous of her people in their time of turmoil.
[Sorry for filibustering, but you got me going! :)]

The intention is anything broadcast by a tv or radio station is affected. Internet over say a cable networks cable system clearly is not currently regulated.
