One of Dru Sjodin's shoes was found under the Hwy. 75 bridge over the Red Lake River in Crookston, Minn. A pink flag marks the spot where it was found on Nov. 25. Sjodin went missing on Nov. 22.

We used to have a guy living on the street whose license plate read: "DEVIANT".
He also ran some sort of "tutoring" service. Ran it out of his home; violation of zoning laws b/c his "clients" came to the house, and it was advertised in the phone book.
He never murdered anyone that I know of, but suffice to say I taught the kids early to steer clear of the guy's house. (There are other crimes one may fall victim to, short of murder.) It made me angry that we had to put up with it. He's gone now; nobody ran him off, he just finally decided to move.
You have one advantage over most parents in dealing with your boy's "freedom issues": you have a real live example of "freedom issues gone bad" to show him.
My older son, although rebellious and contentious in every way, fortunately just doesn't happen to have friends who "make the scene" all the time. So we lucked out on that one. I don't have to fight to keep him at home, at this point. (Actually, I usually welcome a break from him... but only when I can be at peace that he is somewhere legitimate.) I wasn't sure if he'd want to roam the streets when he turned 16; I know I was already kicking around ideas like private detectives and keeping mileage logs on the car, tracking device on car, etc. LOL--so far, I haven't needed any of those things.

Thanks maggie. It just floors me that something like this can happen again here where John Gacy did his evil deed a few decades ago. People have to know that there are many other sick, twisted monsters out there, and we need to protect our kids.
What kind of justice system releases a guy like this who has already killed a child?? And sexual predators are released after they have "done their time" only to be left unmonitored to prey on our children again!!
I will never forget the Gacy case, Adam Walsh, and many others. The night Gacy was executed not far from where I live, I was pregnant with my youngest son. I shot out bed from a sound sleep and had this creepy feeling rush thru me. And then I remembered that he was being executed at midnight, and that's what time it was.
And then to top it off, Richard Speck was rushed to the hospital I was at the very moment that I was in delivering my little man. That was one creepy year in this crime buff's life!!

This guy needs to be euthanized a.s.a.p.
No, I'm not "denying him his presumption of innocence" in these murders. I think he should be euthanized because of the FIRST murder, of which he was convicted.
This case, and Dru's case, tell us that recidivism is the rule, not the exception.
I do not begrudge one penny of my tax money, if it is being used to keep these monsters locked up.

Ewwww...! That IS creepy!
Don't forget the homosexual pedophile, Dean Corll, who tortured and killed numerous boys in Pasadena, Texas. He was finally put out of our misery (shot to death) by one of the boys he'd molested, Elmer Wayne Henley. Although Henley also had a role in Corll's murders--having been a "recruiter", bringing victims to Corll--at least Henley did one right thing in his sorry life.

I was watching that on the local news last night. Much too close for comfort from your house! I'm beginning to think that GPS microchip implants on kids may be the way to go.
This "suspect" (who they refuse to name yet in order to protect his rights, BTW) has only been in that house for 15 months or so. Last night on the news they mentioned that there "must" be simultaneous searches going on of *other places* where this creep has lived. (shudder)

I still think their should be a special provision if the body isn't found. Cut him the deal...Dru's family mean more than the death penalty.

Not (yet) a lawyer, but if I recall correctly, kidnapping is only a federal case if the victim is transported across state lines.
If the crime were committed in NY, Rodriguez would be facing the death penalty because the rape and kidnapping would each be predicate felonies for first degree murder. (Unfortunately, our prosecutors have no testicular fortitude and haven't yet executed any eligible criminals. The death penalty here is a dead letter, IMHO.)

Our kids are not safe in this world...I don't know if you read the posts that I made earlier about the pervert that was targetting our family, but my neighbor, a psychiatrist who does a lot of work for the state told me to never lose track of the guy because he won't lose track of us. He said the guy is a total sociopath and very dangerous.

I went back to read of your case. Seems we have something in common. In Oct. I had a registered sex offender prey on my child. Oh the red tape involved to get protection from this monster! I had a difficult time at first to get an order of protection against this scum. But they are now in place with no contact orders. I don't feel they do us much good since he is still unaccounted for. He, like Rodriquez had done his time, (1/2 of his life) and was released unmonitored. Sure he is registered, but that didn't do us any service!

I think I saw part of that interview. Didn't that lady say that the family hoped that he was holding Dru in shelter with plenty of food and water, etc.? Sure we all hope that, but the found shoe kind of destroys that theory for me. So sad!
To: jude24
But the victim was picked up in North Dakota and her shoe is in Minnesota, so that's crossing state lines.
Either way, they guy needs to be removed from our atmosphere.

I have been tracking sex offenders for the past 6 months. I just located one who I found working as a speech therapist in an elementary school. He added a letter to his last name so he would come clean on a background check.
The sex offender registry is appalling. I am of the opinion that we put a tracking chip in all sex offenders when they leave prison ( if we ever let them leave). They are everywhere and not honest people. (duh)

After my experience, and these horrible cases on these threads, I firmly believe they should never be released, whatever "level" they are classified. The registry doesn't do us ANY good...Didn't do poor Dru any service.
Lock them for life, or better yet, give them the death penalty.
Cubs Fan has started a thread about the Hammond case, I'll ping ya.

You're being too kind. I won't repeat what I'd do to this guy if I were the police officer.
