Take? Doesn't the State offer market value?I'm sure he felt his property was worth much more. Maybe 10,000 times more. If the state wanted it that bad, they should have paid the price. After all, was it not his property?

So you don't think that the taxpayers deserve any protection, either from unreasonable monetary demands or unsafe driving conditions? Your choice is either take it in the shorts (from a money standpoint) or die.
Whether or not you want to believe this, the taxpayers wanted that road widened. That is shown by the people they elected and re-elected. If they did not want it widened, they would have turned out anyone who voted for it.
Unfortunately, you have never read the Federal Aid policy on condemnation or attended any International Right-of-Way Association courses on applying them. People routinely get paid MORE than fair market value. I know that you don't want to believe this or want to argue the point, but it is true. The people who want more usually want to retire in luxury on your dollar. So far, voters have not authorized that.
