Who cares what the citizens of the 51st state are doing. :)
But seriously... this is actually backwards IMO. I've known a lot of Canadians, and they are all fiercely patriotic, and very sensitive about people thinking of them as simply the USA's lapdog. This is no more than an extension of that in my mind.

Someone paid $50K to find out that people wear Maple Leaf patches on their luggage so that foreigners won't think they're "evil" Americans. They wasted their money. I could have told them the same thing for only $40K.

They go around with those blasted patches (provided for free by their government) because they feel upstaged by the US --ustaged in spite of all that "free" health care and control!
