This is just silly. Give a wheelchair to a healthy 12-year-old for a day, and he'll have the time of his life.

It's a good thing the courts are precluded from cruel AND unusual punishment. Cruel OR unusual is fine. This is unusual.

What are these kids going to learn from the people around them when they are in juvenile detention? What are they going to learn from the people around them if they spend a couple of days in a wheelchair at a mall? I think this is a good idea.

He should have also required them to perform certain specific tasks, like shopping for food, shopping for clothes (including having to get the wheelchairs in and out of the dressing rooms), going to the bathroom, etc.

One month continual use would have made a stronger impression. . To make these two teenagers aware of the seriousness of their actions, their punishment should have been expanded to cover other areas - spending time and working in --Rehabs, children hosp. schools for the handicap etc.

Two 12-year-old Auburn boys who recently fired a BB rifle... were taking turns shooting at a cardboard-box target, a light pole and a trash bin, before becoming bored and aiming at the kids, about 75 feet from the fence. The boys also hit an Office Depot truck, cracking the windshield. Where was the parental supervision?

I understand shame but this is flat out ridiculous. He will get nothing from this experience. He is 12 and he is a boy- it will be fun and something that he and his friends can joke about. I bet the paper will sure be well thought out! (sarcasm) The suggestion for community service would be much more beneficial.

Hanging Judge: "Bailiff!"
300lb Bailiff: "Yes, your honor".
Hanging Judge: "Bend that little punk over the bar and put thirty hard whacks on his smartass butt with your belt! HARD!"
300lb Bailiff: "Yes, your honor".
That would be a penalty that would get through to these delinquents.
Of course, I am living in a dream world. Something that makes as much sense as giving a stupid punk a dose of the strap would never happen in reality.
