"Don't tell me that you, too, join the ranks of the hypocrites who think others should be punished for breaking laws they themselves disagree with."
of course not! I just get tired of reading posts from apologists, on a crusade for their Hero, without thinking through the ramifications, of their posts. You support the WOD, I am against the WOD. You support prosecution of criminals, and SO DO I! Where we seem to divide, is when the laws are unfairly prosecuted, or used as an unfair application of control, or misappropriation, of Individual Rights.
I like to read all of the threads, I can, on FR, not just the drug-related ones. "Conservatives" don't seem to be well-represented on this site, though there is much attention paid to "conservative" causes, and thought. Many posters, though, will immediately disagree, and claim they are the truly conservative.
But in reading volumes of posts, it seems many of those writing have never heard of Rights, or at least seem to think it is OK to look the other way, if it doesn't affect them (right now). Or, they pick and choose which Rights are inviolable, and want to go along when someone take rights away from others, because it fits their idea of good/bad!
I am sure I have been a hypocrite, many, many times. I have five children, ranging in age from my 32 yr old LEO son, down to my 14 yr old high school daughter. They see how I live, and enjoy the fruits of my labors. I endeavor to be true to them, and to God. We all see things with our own biases, and prejudices, so we all are part of the system.
Regarding Rush, i have enjoyed listening to his show since 1987. He has had me rolling in the floor (figuratively), with his "updates", etc. But, I see one post where the poster claims Rush has been a one-man show, for the conservative cause. I think he made it because there were so many folk wanting to hear what he said. If someone else had been in the right place, they may have been the hero.
The marketplace is all about supply and DEMAND. The supply was short, Rush became the supply (by way of a man with money, and an idea for a conservative talk show-[and if you have listened to him for any time, know who that man is]). He formulated an attractive product, with great entertaining values, and has ridden the wave. He has done well, and deserves it. That is an example of capitalism, at its best. I have Rush ties. I have a Rush coffe cup. I also think he is a pompous ass, at times, and get tired quickly these days, of listening to the same point, repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated... and I change the radio. But, I still like the ties, and drink coffee everyday (though not always with the same cup). Rush needs our prayers, but he also needs to be held to the same standards. Many of those represented herein, seem to think he should be exonerated, and his misdeeds overlooked, BEFORE THEY KNOW THE FACTS! They are the most vocal ones saying "wait"!
I have used this tag line, for a few days, just to poke fun!
I hope those supporting, and condoning Rush's use of drugs, (admittedly for recreational purposes -getting high) see the double standard that is being applied.
I am not a druggie, though I have played one in the past. I do not think that all drugs should be legalized, but see nothing in the Founding Documents, that give rise to our nanny state mentality, of today!
If hemp were made legal today, I would go to the store and buy some... I enjoyed the way it affected me, much more than my margaritas, or Cabernet! I never lost control, while smoking 'marijuana'.
Thanks for the reparte', and thanks for putting up with my long sentence structure.!

(Rush is Right. But, his drug use was wrong! That's OK, he's Rush, it's gotta be OK!)

" I never lost control, while smoking 'marijuana'. "
Just to clarify something, before I forget (short term memory...LOL). I drink a couple of glasses of wine a day. I occasionally exchange them for a couple of Margaritas.
I have been "drunk" three times in my life. I hated the feeling! I don't get drunk any more, and rarely have more than my 1 or 2 a day!
I drink the red wines because I like them. I had a heart surgeon, friend, get me started, after he read enough studies to convince him of its 'therapeutic' value. I drink the margarita's because Jose Cuervo makes some good stuff!
