How did he get a Bronze Star? Is there anyplace we can read about it? Boy, what a fantastic honor for a civilian, to be able to serve his country in that way.

How did he get a Bronze Star? Is there anyplace we can read about it? Try the book, by Galloway himself and Hal Moore, "We Were Soldiers Once, And Young". Then go rent the movie with Mel Gibson playing Hal Moore and Barry Pepper playing Joe Galloway. Then you'll begin to understand. To paraphrase Sgt.Maj.Plumley, played by Sam Elliot, "there were no noncombatants in that place". And to quote General Moore, "Hollywood finally got it right"
Not that the movie is 100% faithful to the book, it's not, but from those I've known who were there, they got the essence of pretty well down.

Rent a copy of "We Were Soldiers" and you'll see Galloway reluctantly pick up an M-16 and defend the wounded at the 7th Cav's aid station and single-handedly carry a wounded soldier to a huey for medevac. Oh and grab a box of Kleenex, too. It's a tearjerker.

By being the anti-Dan Rather.
And a lot more like Ernie Pyle.
(Other posters have given you the factual reasons for the award.)
