I am sure there are a lot of parents out there who do not want their kids doing some of the stupid things they did as kids. Does that make them hypocrites? 7 posted on 11/25/2003 3:36 AM CST by ambrose [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 3 | View Replies | Report Abuse ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To: ambrose >>>Does that make them hypocrites?<<< Yes. 8 posted on 11/25/2003 3:37 AM CST by Greg Weston
I disagree, It's only hypocritical if parents continue to practice bad behavior while punishing their kids for the same. Otherwise parents are giving their kids the benefit of the parents life experiences.
If I were to abide by your definition, I couldn't correct any of my kids bad behavior had I done the same in the past.

Why not? They live under your roof don't they? You are in charge of them. Most people are hypocrites more or less. Including myself. I recognize it and move on. There are many examples I could give...most men who look at a dirty magazine or whatever sure wouldn't want their daughter to be the one in it would they? A guy could get drunk now and then, doesn't mean you want your kids to do that. It doesn't necessarily mean you are less of a person. It just means you have a touch of hypocrisy. Just like Limbaugh.

That was a pretty clueless reply (that one is a hypocrite for wanting kids not to do what you did that you now realize is foolish)
It would be hyprocritical if you were still doing stuff while lecturing against it.
But what the heck--I don't think we OWE it to kids to tell them the details of our past mistakes, PLUS they don't want to hear it.
Anymore than they want to hear details of our present sex life (if, of course, it exists)
