What do we do to effect policy in our own party?

We infiltrate the party and make it our own, just as the communist did the Dimocrat Party.

Start with the County Party (this is why I joined the Republican Club). With a discerning eye find Conservative candidates at the local and county level. Support their candidacies and support their election to leadership positions in the party.

Then we follow the above model at the State and finally the National Party.

It will take many years but hopefully I will see a true Conservative US Congress in my lifetime.

You can do that at the local county level and get very conservative people as candidates as a lot of the local activist are very conservative.... But it gets harder as you begin to expand the level of the posistion from local to district, regional, state and national...... But I agree you do need to start at the local level and in time hopefully it will work up the ladder.

"My concerns with Dubyuh are fixable, and I believe the next 12 months will be key in setting an agenda for Dubyuh's second term that will address the overspending issues that we both agree must be addressed."

Spending is a tough issue. Enjoyed the debate, though. You certainly kept it fair and level headed.

"Can anyone on Fr names 6 Conservative in the Republican GOP?"

IMHO, my Congressman, Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, is a rock-ribbed conservative and would steer the GOP towards a smaller and less-intrusive Federal Leviathan if we had the other votes required to make it a reality...MUD

"Can anyone on Fr names 6 Conservative in the Republican GOP? I want to see them"

How about a dozen off the top of my head who are still in the GOP and still influence policy one way or another:

Congressman Chris Cox
Congressman Tom DeLay
Congressman Dick Armey
President Ronald Reagan
Senator Jeff Sessions
Senator Shelby
Senator Chamblis
President G W Bush
Vice President Dick Cheney
Senator Jesse Helms
Congressman Newt Gingrinch
Sec Defense Donald Rumsfeld

Need any more, newbie?

"IMHO...The President, if reelected(And I'm betting money he will be.), will do more to cut domestic spending."

The best way to insure that is to campaign on it as a central item in his second term.

"That's the one area the dims could have used to bash him in the media with during this next election."

The RATS'll be bashing him for not spending enuff no matter how much the GOP spends...we cannot win a spending war with the RATS.

"The soccer mom vote he got last election would leave in droves if they thought Bush was taking money away from the NEA, and the dims would make darn sure they knew."

NEA=Natl. Endowment of Arts or Natl. Education Association?! If it's the Arts, a very good principled argument can be made that the Federal Guv'ment oughtn't be subsidizing the arts, public radio, or public teevee. If yer referencing Education spending, we ought to be concentrating on decentralizing funding--and control--for BigEd from the Fed and back to the States, Localities, and Teachers/Parents. Education spending savings can be found in cutting the overhead/administration and block-granting funds to the States and Localities, then gradually decreasing the amount of the BlockGrants annually.

"But come 2004, my mind is already made up that he is getting my vote, period. Why? Because for the first time in my life, I watched an attack on American soil by an enemy who I know from my Navy days, would not hesitate to slaughter us all like fall pigs if given the chance. I watched this enemy kill our servicemen, and other Americans for most of my life, it's obvious they're not going to stop."

While I consider myself a libertarian who votes conservative, I've voted for GOP POTUS candidates ever since I became eligible for Reagan's second term, so I have no doubt I'll be voting for Dubyuh as well. That said, I do not want to have my views taken for granted, and I will continue to agitate for less Federal spending and a more solidly-conservative agenda in Dubyuh's second term.

"For the first time, we've got a President whose stood up and said enough's enough. He's taken the fight to their a$$es, and made real progress into cutting off the head of the snake that breeds this enemy, while brilliantly trying to win hearts in a region where no love for Americans can be found. Yes, there are things the President does that doesn't please me. The AWB is a big issue with me. But, looking at the big picture, removing the threat of terrorists is the most important issue facing us today. Anyone other than Bush in the whitehouse come 2004 is not good for the safety and security of our nation."

Yep...the World's not safe enough to vote for a DemonRAT Administration!!

When the voters elect a majority of Conservatives to congress, then Conservatives will get most of what they want. In the meantime......

The process has been underway for some time, and many now in Congress are the rock-ribbed sorta conservatives you and I crave. The problem is--to some extent--Dubyuh is not as conservative as many of us would prefer and these conservative Republicans are not inclined to buck their party leader during a time of war, especially when the DemonRATS have shown such a propensity fer seditious behavior. However, we've gotta remember that many of these Congressmen are the same folks who took over Congress in '94 and their idealism can be reignited, given the right spark!!

"It will take many years but hopefully I will see a true Conservative US Congress in my lifetime."

November 2004 is a great place to start again...if you've got RINOs in power, get rid of them in the primaries!! If you've got RATS in power, get rid of them next November!! It's an ongoing and worthwhile fight and one we cannot afford to backslide on.

Impressive list. However the No Child Left Behind legislation seems philosophically related to the No Nation Left Behind agenda of the United Nations. It forces teachers to promote students whether they pass or not. My wife teaches in the government school system so I know whereof I speak. I'd remove that one from the list.

Gore would have been worse. He wouldn't have hired a Rumsfield type. At least the armed forces seem to respect their CIC. But that's about it. Bush/Rove hasn't seen a government expansion program he didn't like.

"Bush/Rove hasn't seen a government expansion program he didn't like."

Perhaps you never heard of the Kyoto Global Warming treaty, with its co-committant government expansion to fund eco-NAZI policies, but Bush/Rove killed it dead.

Government funding for abortions overseas was killed, too.
