I have to disagree with you. Our country has become an aristrocrisy. The Senators have made themselves above the laws they make for the "serfs"; they have made the "serfs" dependant on them; and they have appointed judges to make law from the bench.

Or perhaps an even more apt description of this nation is that it has become a "Judicial Tyranny"! The judiciary is far too powerful in the nation. The balance of power is out of balance.

When the people make their wishes known at the ballot box and a judge overturns it; when their elected officials pass laws which judges overturn, then we have an Tyranny! A country run by tyranical judges! The "people" can not have what they want! It is a country no longer, "for the people, by the people"...it is for the rich and powerful by the judges.

We must revolt against this and turn it around! In the words of our very own Declaration of Independence:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness....."

In the Declaration of Independence, the colonies listed the crimes the King had committed against them, which compelled them to declare a separate government. Amoung them was the very problem we now have with our judiciary!

"He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries."

Judges these days are dependent on the will of the liberal democrats or they may not even be voted on. The liberal democrats obstruct justice by refusing to allow any laws restricting judicial power, or even allowing a balance of opinion in the court by allowing Christian conservatives to sit on an appeals court!

The attempted killing of Terri Schiavo is another evidence of judicial tyranny. They are stepping on the "self evident, unalienable rights" of Terri Schiavo. Rights given her by her creator and not in the power of any government to take away. Our founders said that when a government acts in such a despotic way; "it is their (the people) right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security..."

I could not agree more.

Thank you for your comments. We have a democracy in the sense that politicians rely too heavily on POLLS and special interest groups. We have an oligarchy in the sense that 9 robed morons try to rule by arbitrary fiat without regard to the rule of law. We are a nation of laws not men, and in that sense we have also leaned toward democracies which are rules by the arbitrary will of the majority or special interests, and not laws. We have the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights in order to ensure that we do not become a democracy, however, no one pays attention to the Constitution any more. Not Bush, not Congress, not anyone - to them it is a mere RELIC! The vast majority in our government have broken their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution and I won't waste my vote on anyone who ignores it. That means I don't vote Republican or Democrat - both are guilty as charged!

Lex Rex not Rex Lex. Law is King.

If you want to do something about this tyranny - then get a petition from the following website, fill it up with signatures and mail it in!

More signs of an oligarchy/democracy: The illegal and unconstitutional use of Executive Orders by the President; the delegation of congressional authority to unaccountable bureacratic agencies (EPA, SEC, ETC.), and the continued expansion of the Federal Govt under the Republican leadership. All 3 branches are guilty of ignoring the U.S. Constitution, an impeachable offense, since the Constitution is the LAW OF THE LAND.

If you think republicans are much better than democrats, you are dreaming. There isn't more than a handful of people in our Congress who give a flip about what the Constitution says. Their behavior proves it.

Well stated.

Incidentally Pinnellas County seems a weird place. A couple of mothers who were friends would baby sit for each other's children -- turns out they were breaking the law. You can have a baby sitter come to your home but not take your child to a friend's unless that person has a license.

We should also remember that the Declaration of Independence is still in effect, even though it predates the current Constitution.

It was passed by the lawful legislative branch of the US, hasn't been repealed, and has not yet been overturned by the courts.
