(REWARD! Tagline missing since 10/21. Pithy, clever. Last seen in Chat. Sentimental value.)
Mr. Steyn,
Sometimes, letting your foe show his ass is precisely what is needed.
For a case in point, see the Paul Wellstone Memorial pep rally.

I think Richards' "foot in the mouth" line came at the 1988 Dem. Nat'l Convention, in regards to H. W. Bush.

Correct. Last week it was Missouri instead of Mississippi. Somebody needs a swift kick at the Telegraph.

Yeah, but the majority of Minnesota was somewhat ashamed and aware of the obvious repulsiveness of the Wellstone/Nuremberg Rally. I'm not sure the same can be said of Britain.

The question is not why Tony Blair invited Bush, but why did Bush go.
To: Pokey78
This is the choice: confrontation or capitulation.Appeasement is capitulation.

"Poor George. Born with a silver foot in his mouth," sneered the then Texas
Governor Ann Richards, mocking her opponent as an idiot son of privilege. I still remember that bi*ch sayin' that too ! ...
Bush got my vote that year ... and in 2000 ...

... and will get my vote in 2004 too !!

Rumour already has it that certain elements in the rogue State Department set Bush up for this debacle
to remind him in the starkest way just what happens when you listen to hard men like Rummy
instead of the emollient types at Foggy Bottom.

I can't figure out why he's going over there. Perhaps the Queen invited him.
To: Pokey78
The defeatist enemies of freedom are having a riot during Bush's visit.
How sad. Steyn hits it right on:
"That's why this week will be a good test of US resolve. The Islamists can't win militarily. They can only win by demoralising America into jacking it in. That's a high price to pay for a Palace photo-op."

The question is not why Tony Blair invited Bush, but why did Bush go.Bush is loyal to his friends. He went because Blair asked him.
