calm down, take a deep breath...

No one meant to insult Scotland.

Look we're just responding to the insults of one Scottish man--a Scottish man who feels like he can disparage patriotic Americans and the American flag while trying to make American dollars.

That attitude on behalf of entertainers just doesn't cut it anymore.

There was no offense against Scotland meant by anyone, I'm sure.

MANY FOLK KNOW WHAT THE SCOTS FLAG LOOKS LIKE(THE ST ANDREWS CROSS----WHITE CROSS ON A BLUE FLAG IF YOU DONT KNOW,MATE).HOW PATHETIC THAT YOU FELL THE NEED TO INSULT A PROUD COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE,WHO ARE AMONG YOUR FEW ALLIES.........

HEY FIRST OF ALL JACK THERE'S NO NEED TO YELL LIKE A FAT HEADED MORON!

Secondly you need to re-read my post. How many people recognize Old Glory vs. how many people recognize Old St Andrews Cross Flag or whatever you guys call it. And if Scotland were our only ally as you seem to think, we would be in the HURT LOCKER. Seems to me the Coalition numbered about 40 Countries. Allies or not, how pathetic that the superiority of Old Glory escapes your myopic view.

PS I have nothing against Scotland at all. I have been there and it is a very beautiful land. However you are over-reacting "MATE" (I thought only Aussies used the word mate, BTW)

But juding from some of Anderson's lyrics one could assume that love and pride were not part of his upbringing. One could assume that he was a masturbatory, pedophiliac and obsessed with bodily functions.

Huh?

I HAVE BEEN TO YOUR COUNTRY AND I AM HALF SCOTTISH. AM PROUD TO BE SO. THE POSTER IS CORRECT. MOST, IF NOT ALL THE INTELLIGENT SCOTS HAVE LEFT.

ISN'T SCOTLAND BASICALLY SOCIALIST? AND WHAT IS SO BLOODY ADMIRABLE ABOUT A NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM? YOU WILL DIE IN A WAITING ROOM BEFORE YOU ARE SEEN BY A DOCTOR.

SOME OF US SCOTS DON'T NEED OUR A@@S WIPED BY A NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

SO ALL THE INTELLIGENT SCOTS LEFT AND ONLY SOCIALIST LOSERS ARE LEFT?.NO.PLEASE DON'T INSULT US........

What party(s) dominates the politics in Scotland and what are its (their) political beliefs?

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN HERE?

No. And what is being there supposed to illustrate for me? That there are nice normal-looking people in Scotland? I'm sure there are.

IF YOU WERE PROUD OF YOUR SCOTTISH BLOOD,YOU HAVE AN OFFENSIVE WAY OF SHOWING IT...............

Why? Quite a bit of Scottish "blood" has left Scotland and those people certainly have much to be proud of. But pride should be based on accomplishments, not genetic association. From my perspective, it looks as if Scots have been the driving force of industry, invention, and progress in every country that they've emigrated to yet in comparison, Scotland, itself, seems to suffer from a lackluster economy and socialist-leaning government. If there is a flaw in that analysis, and if you can find the caps-lock on your keyboard, feel free to point out where I'm wrong. But if mentioning socialized medicine and government-backed education is the best you can do to refute this point, I don't think you'll have an easy time convincing me that I'm wrong.

I LIKE AMERICA,BUT I AM PROUD TO BE SCOTTISH,AND LIVE IN A COUNTRY WHICH,UNLIKE YOURS,HAS A NATIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND PUTS MORE PEOPLE PER HEAD THROUGH FURTHER EDUCATION THAN ANY COUNTRY IN EUROPE...........NOT BAD FOR A NATION OF SOCIALIST LOSERS........AND I AM A CONSERVATIVE...........

I can ramble on for hours about how much I love New Jersey but that does not change the fact that it has a lot of problems, suffers from horribly leftist politics, and that a lot of the best and brightest do leave to find greener pastures in other states. Pride in and love for a place do not necessarily require blindness to that place's flaws.

But I really have to wonder about how "conservative" you are if you think that (A) a national health system is a great selling point and (B) you simplistically equate education with success. Those sound like pretty leftist perspectives to me. For the record, I'm quite happy with our health care system in the U.S. (I have dealt more more socialized health care in Japan and was not impressed) and I'm more interested in how productive and employed people are than how formally educated they are.

If you love Scotland, that's great. People should love the place where they live, flaws and all. I do, and don't fault you for doing the same. But the people are not the place and the place is not the people. And I think you might surprised by some of the people who have Scottish blood running through their veins outside of Scotland.

No the title of worst band ever trully goes to Nazareth. Jethro Tull are actually good musicians. And if flute solos in Rock N'Roll can work for the likes of Genesis and King Crimson, I dont' see why they should be a problem anywhere else. I'm rather surprised by Anderson's remarks. It is definitely disappointing, as I always believed he was a conservative in the U.K.

First of all,I apologise for using caps lock.To answer you 'new labour',a politically correct left-wing party rules Scotland, whereas the UK government is more centrist. However, the majority of the populace is more 'old labour',which is leftist but ironically with a deep belief in socially conservative societal beliefs(family, patriotism, the old Scottish belief in good education). Secondly,my point was do not preach on another country if your knowledge is suspect or you have not been here.I have been to America several times and therefore can make at least a rough judgement on it. Thirdly, all Scots are proud of the NHS,even the right-wing tories use it as a major totem of their policies. No one not even the extremist BNP will get rid of it........As for education, your point is facile.America is successful in SPITE of an appalling education system. How great America would be if you had the best education system............Is it coincidence that Scotland outperforms America in every level of education, and that we contribute a disproportionate amount to the UK treasury and have the UK's strongest economy per head(check the British papers,as Scotland's economy is again booming). That we produce a disproportionate amount of Europe's superconductors for example.Sorry, but a more intelligent populace equals a better economy.Common-sense...These are Scottish beliefs irrespective of politics,if you ever came here, you would see this. Lastly,I never have said that I think Scotland is wonderful, with no problems.God,we do......believe me..........

Erm,YOU need to re-read my post.I never said 'only ally',but in europe your allies are hardly numerous.......And sorry but your ARE taking the mickey?.'How pathetic that the superiority of Old Glory escapes your myopic view'.You are being ironic?.......if not you have just made my point for me........Then you seriously wonder why Americans have that arrogant reputation........How sad the greatest immigrant nation seems so unwilling to ever look beyond its shores and take an interest in other countries and cultures.I mean this as a friend of America.Myopic?........not us,mateyblokegeezer........

I have been to America several times and therefore can make at least a rough judgement on it

Depends where in America. London, Wales, rural England, the Highlands, Edinburgh, and Belfast are all part of the UK and mostly speak English, but all are obviously different. Same can go for regions of the US.

As for education, your point is facile.America is successful in SPITE of an appalling education system. How great America would be if you had the best education system............Is it coincidence that Scotland outperforms America in every level of education

Again, that depends. I'll be the first to admit that we have a lot of problems with our public schools, particulary with dumbass administrators and politically correct BS which hampers it. If you check the American education rates, they vary widely. You have private schools, many of which are top level. There are public school in rural areas with mixed rates, then there are some high level exurban and suburban schools. Then you have some of the inner city public schools which are appaling. In my state, School boards are elected and most of them govern their own district(Usually a City and the area around the city). They also have some nationwide and State(province) level requirements.

I'm not suprised by the Scots on education. I know several Scots here who immigrated. They all work hard and tend to lean to the right politically voting either libertarian(3rd party) or Republican, which amazes me why Scots voted for Labour so heavily. Is it because of Strathclyde dominating the vote?

I agree with you sir.
My own definition of patriotism, though far different from Anderson's, is also narrow.

Those of us at home who speak for or against the war aren't patriots. We're beneficiaries of a goverment that allows us to speak out, without fear of retribution.

It's the brave men and women who gave us those rights - the ones who put themselves in harms way - they are the only ones who deserve to be called patriots.

Some of these Hollywood anti-war folks break their arms patting themselves on the back, calling themselves patriots, justifying it on the fact that their veiws have cost them acting roles. Sadly, that kind of behavior shows you how much our society takes for granted the freedom the real patriots fought and died for.

A big thank you, to your son for defending his country.
