THE reformation of Iraq continues to go far better than media reports suggest, yet, for the first time, seasoned observers of conflict have reason to worry. Saddam and his die-hard supporters have worked out a strategy to win - while our own officials continue to deny their errors, react clumsily to developments and just hope for the best. We have abundant means to defeat the Ba'athist remnants and the Islamic terrorists entering Iraq. But our lack of a serious, integrated plan that rises above wishful thinking and wasteful ideology continues to cost us credibility, momentum and lives.

Peters is a bigot. His column on Germans was disgrace.

Your comment is ridiculous. Peters has been rational and steadfast in his support of the Iraq mission. He's got good points here.

Peters is correct here. We need to take it to our enemies in Iraq before it is to late.

I see this morning Bremer is heading back to Baghdad to speed up handing over the reins to the Iraqi's themselves......how will that improve the security on the ground?

Wonder if we will hit any empty warehouses today.....that will sure scare the terrorists.

You definitely can come to this conclusion (disliking Germans)if you read the books he writes in his pen name Owen Perry, or others of his fictional works such as RED Army and War in 2020.

The problem with Peters is he has this visceral hatred for rummy cause of what he did this hero Shinneski, and going outside the current Perfumed Princes of the US Army for bringing in an old warrior.

That doesn't mean he doesn't have any valid points, just haven't seen it in this article.

Maybe the army should reactive him and send him there in charge of a battalion of Intel people, since he has all these good ideas.

An interesting aside, have heard thru so of my friends still on active duty, this guy couldn't run a platoon effectively, in peace time, and had a tendency to get his troops, destroyed in war games.

Means I won't stop reading him, but take his writings with a grain of salt.

His last book Beyond Baghdad really sucked, couldn't get beyond the 1st ten pages of drivel.
