And, in reality they were not there the whole time but were scheduled for their time on the floor and then were in their offices sleeping or whatever.

If you force a full scale filibuster, every Republican senator has to be there 24/7, while the dems only have to have one at a time on the floor.
I think the Republicans are doing the best they can, and I amsick of the carping by radio hosts who don't bother to learn the mechanisms of the Senate rules.
