I know that one nominee was held up and eventuall disqualified by the Democrats because of a POSITION that the law firm he worked for took in a amicus brief BEFORE he even went to work for that law firm.

HUH????

That makes no sense at all

Apparently Judge Pryor had planned a family trip to Disneyland, and when he learned that he had booked the days of a gay pride gathering, he changed his reservation. His children were about 4 & 6 years old.

Remember, Americans who believe in God, family and country ARE mainstream!

See what I mean? The Republicans on the Judiciary are furious at the pettiness and mean-spiritedness of the Democrats.

Really. Hi Republican Staffers!

Just don't let Senator Durbin read over your shoulder. Based on the hissy that he was having earlier about FOX News, I'm afraid that this thread would just set him off again.

Yes, I have. And I can agree with many of his points. For example, the Republicans are certainly averse to making rule changes that could diminish their chances of using the filibuster in the future, and I agree with this. Frist has also said that the Republicans do not want to derail other important legislation from being enacted by the Senate, and I agree with this, to a point.

To me, however, there comes a time when the value of judicial nominations outweighs ALL ELSE (and, IMO, we are long past that point). And let's not forget that the Dims are using this as a proving ground to derail any future Supreme Court nomination, which to them is the "Holy Grail" of politics (look into it and you will see why this is so).

Thus I remain unconvinced that Frist's tactics are sound, and to me he seems more and more to be a "let's all get along" Republican SML wimp in the same mold as Lott and his fellow wimps, Hatch and Specter.

OK! I’ll be the dummy that has to ask why the minority party is able to dictate the rules to the majority party. How did the dems get the “super majority” ruling in place and how are they avoiding an eventual vote? Aren’t there parliamentarian rules regarding such maters? Isn’t there someone or some office to enforce adherence to established rules?

Second question – I thought a filibuster was a means to extend debate in order to ovoid a vote. How come this time the Republicans are extending debate with no known or stated outcome except to “inform Americans”. What kind of crap is that.

A Dem can say a Pub is an idiot – and the idiot then responses by saying, “my esteemed colleague is entitled to his opinion”. This is the “conservative” dilemma.

If an appointee is released from committee, why can’t they just have a vote?

Thanks for any insight you can offer.
