BAGHDAD, Nov 12 (AFP) - Two suspected insurgents were killed, three more wounded and five detained when the US army staged two operations late Wednesday in Baghdad, the US military said.

"The 1st Armored Division staged this evening two different operations in Baghdad," Captain Dave Gercken told AFP.

Gercken said army vehicles and Apache helicopters pursued a van in the western parts of the capital until the gunship fire on and hit the vehicle in the Abu Ghraib neighborhood.

"Two were killed in action, three were wounded and five were detained," he said.

Gercken said a second operation was launched

Anyone ever see why GW's man on the ground at the FEBA had to rush back to DC for a meeting ???

Lulling the Jihadies and Saddamites into being bit lax on their OpSec?

...Slimestein and Boxer out here in CA.

Strong contenders, indeed. The Rinettes are not even close.

All right, who's got the required "Apache in the rear view mirror" picture?

There are over 16,000 homicides per year in the US, a break down of about 44 per day ...

It's a quagmire. we must withdraw at once.

Maybe the rebuilding should have been postponed until enough asskicking had been done that every living thing in Iraq lined up with a white flag in their hand, begging for the chance to surrender unconditionally.

After that, separating the builders from the destroyers would have been a whole lot easier.

minds about pre-emptive action

This phrase, plus the crawler on Fox and CNN both saying "believed to be used by terrorists", really frosts my biscuits.

Army press reports from the Tikrit J-DAM raid, and the comments from Steve Centanni, indicate that U.S. Forces found fuses, timers, explosives, and maps marked with locations of previous IED attacks. This tells me that there should be no suspicion on anyone's part that these are valid military targets. They have been used to plan attacks and prepare bombs, which makes our actions retaliatory, not pre-emptive.

CNN and FOX both still have too much of the 'innocent until proven guilty' journalistic mentality ... the kind that insists you use words like alleged ... to realize that they should be saying we are 'taking out known terrorist targets.'

Sheesh!

You found the pic El Gato was asking about, though.
It's one of my favorites!

Pssstt! 1) You don't know what's going on.

I understand that it is easy to sit here and armchair quarterback this operation, and that I am not an expert in miltary tactics. I do believe based on what I can see happening that before our "Operation Iron Hammer" began, our military was being held back somewhat from doing what they know needs to be done.

I would rate VT as 2nd and NJ as third....any other contenders for the top 3?

Surely you jest, what about Fienstien? Boxer? I know pop eye Pelosy is in the house but if that isn't the most repulsive thing on the hill I don't know what is.

The DUers said Iraq was Vietnam an hour after the war started.

Not quite they were convinced it was going to be ANOTHER Viet Nam long before it started.

It's an awesome picture, but it's not an Apache as well as not in the rearview mirror. It's the latest and greatest version of the venerable Huey Cobra, the AH-1Z (The same picture, minus the wonderfull sentiment is linked on the AH-1Z link.)

That's the one I had in mind. The background is something from photoshop anyway. Afghanistan, Iraq, who cares, the Jihadies are all the same.

LOL! I should have worded my post better.

I don't much about 'em, but I knew it wasn't an Apache.
I just thought it was cool...

HiJinx had the pic you were requesting, and that's why I pinged you to his post.

BTW, hubby was a Navy pilot, so I DO know a little bit about their aircraft.

I'm not a total airhead...I promise. ;o)
