I do not agree with you. They infringed on my right to privacy. They intruded upon my space without an invitation to me. I can go on and on about this.
I do not know how many phone calls I would get daily during important acts like changing my baby's diaper. I would rush to the phone, and it would be a telemaketer.
I'm thinking it's my other kid's school or some other emergency, and instead it's a telemaketer.
The other night, I got a phone call in the middle of the night about 3:30am. My husband was out of town, so I immediately thought something happened to him. My brother has terminal cancer, so I then thought something happened to him. I finally get to the phone, and it was a fax machine. I couldn't go back to sleep because I was so wound up.

My step-daughter died in a car accident at 10;15 AM on Friday Dec 29th 2000.
We didn't know this until around 8PM that night.
We were online via dial-up largely to avoid telemarketers.
We had more than 8 calls a day, sometimes as many as 20.
"Would you like a free cellphone?just give us access to your bank account!" (imagine that said in a quick-e-mart accent).
I hate telemarketers.
