Ice Cream Vendor Gunned Down In Broad Daylight

DALLAS -- Eyewitnesses -- some of them children -- said two attackers shot a man pushing his ice cream cart in the 3000 block of Falls Drive in Oak Cliff.

An intense search for the attackers was underway Monday night across southeast Dallas. Police said the 28-year-old ice cream vendor, Francisco "Pancho" Badillo, was gunned down while selling ice cream to children a few blocks away from their elementary school. Witnesses said Badillo was apparently trying to fend off a robber when the shots were fired.

Police said the men were in a dark-color -- possibly black -- Honda Civic.

The murder sent a chill through the tight-knit Oak Cliff community where Pancho was a part of the neighborhood, selling ice cream there for years.

My question is: Can the people who did this legally carry a concealed weapon in Texas?

I dunno, but I think shooting someone is against the law there, apparently someone forgot to tell those guys :) I guess criminals don't obey the laws, something the liberals have yet to hit upon...

Do you suppose that the ice cream guy was one of those drug dealers just fronting or was really the target of a robbery? I know there are some dumb*ssed criminals out there, but how much money would the ice cream man have on him at any given time?

Apparently all the talk of Texas citizens being armed for protection is a myth.

Perhaps, but I did note it was close to an elementary school, and most places don't allow guns in that area...

Had Mr. Badillo, and many of the adults in the immediate vicinity, been armed, it is highly unlikely anyone would have attempted such a robbery.

Maybe Pancho was shot for playing "Turkey in the Straw," electric piano version, to announce his ice cream wagon one too many times.

And a very stupid question it is, too. I'll give you a hundred-to-one odds that the people who did this did not have concealed carry licenses.

Concealed carry will not prevent all crime. It will, however, reduce some of it.

I see you have some kind of agenda here.

I would give far longer odds than that.
