I actually had the occasion to meet the Prince. I was brought up in Australia, and my mother knew some Aussie blue-blood types who were invited to an exclusive opening of an art gallery depicting Australian artists: the event was to be opened by The Prince. It was strictly black tie, invitation only. This couple couldn't go so they gave their 2 tickets to my mother. My Dad was not interested.

So dressed to the nines, Mom and I attended this elitist do. I remember we had to wait for at least an hour behind a velvet cord before The Prince showed up. We could not enter the art gallery until he arrived. I was in the front row. He wasn't even 6 feet away from me, when he walked by. I remember shouting out something extremely polite such as: "Its good to see you, Sir". He pretended he did not hear me and walked into the gallery. After 5 minutes or so, the velvet barriers were removed, and we, the assembled waiting (about 100 of us) were granted access to the room.

There were wonderful examples of Australian art on the a wall; a huge banquet table with very expensive treats and no Prince. So we all just milled around, got a glass a wine, found something to eat, found an artist, congratulated him on his work and wondered if the Prince would ever return.

He finally did. He said a few bland words and immediately left. He made eye contact with no-one. It was so very surreal.

Many, many, many years later, I'm with Mr. Peel at a Republican Rally with guest, Dick Cheney. Mr. Peel pushed himself to the font of the line -- and said: "I've been waiting a long time to shake your hand, Sir". I saw Dick Cheney's face absolutely melt. There was intelligence in those eyes, there was warmth, there was a living breathing person there.

I never saw that with Prince Charles. And I got closer to him than Mr. Peel did with Dick Cheney.

Is The Prince gay? I honestly don’t have a glue. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he were.

Bolland [Prince Charles's former deputy private secretary] says: "I remember a year ago Michael Peat called me on holiday and asked, ‘Do you think the Prince of Wales is bisexual?'

"I told him that was emphatically NOT the case. It is astonishing that even he—a sensible and cautious man —had heard so much innuendo that he wanted to check the various allegations with as many people as possible."

I feel sorry for these people.

The Dick Cheneys of the world are in the position they are in because that is what they wanted to do of their own free will.

The Royals are in the position they are in because fate has cursed them with their lot.

These people are the descendents of foreign child-brides who were bundled off in the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries to marry men they had never seen and who were often their first cousins in dynastic marriages arranged by their parents or by ministers while they were still children or infants. After marrying and procreating, their ancestors scattered their flesh and blood throughout Europe to marry other foreign cousins and repeat the cycle all over again.

Royalty is child abuse.

If Charles and Camilla had been commoners, they would have met, fallen in love, married and gone on to a long mariage or a divorce of their own free will.

As it was, Charles was married to a woman he barely knew for the sole reason that she was the only virgin of correct pedigree that Buckingham Palace could find to ensure that Charles produced "an heir and a spare".

Edward VIII did the right thing. Charles puts up with the Royal curse but it is clear that he hates it.
