I am unsure if I agree with this either. I would think that, you report, they decide would be better. More than likely, they will decide in favor of your opinions.

The superiority of (at least) western art to all others is not something to decide, it is something to accept. If anyone can come up with the non-western equivalent of Beethoven, Van Gogh, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, etc. then there is room for debate. Otherwise...why not accept the truth?

BTW, my students are lucky if they can recognize Da Vinci's Mona Lisa (some thought it was painted by Picasso), much less debate the value of western culture!
