So, even the hearing is labeled as "to dismiss" a petition to change the guardianship.

Galling, but maybe this isn't newspeak. The hearing is named for the motion that brought it about. So there would be a different hearing for the petition itself.

I see now, the Wednesday hearing was to consider dismissal of the Schindlers' petition for guardianship. That was denied for the time being. So there will be another hearing on the merits of whether Schiavo can continue as guardian. One does learn a lot about legal procedures by following Terri's fight.
