Dakine posted that a .223 is way better than a .308, that Sherman was too kind to Atlanta, that Terri should have her tube jerked and that Elian is better off in Cuban military school where he belongs. Nothing particularly controversial.

Oh, okay. As long as no one's fighting about it or anything. It's saved me from reading the whole thread--although I did catch that George Clinton thing. Always liked his hair.

I wrote the forum software and launched the Free Republic forum in February 1997

and there was much rejoicing.

That was a great show!

Thought would be a good time to re-post..Am I wrong in doing so?

No, you are not wrong in reposting this article. It is needed by the newer FR posters to understand our situation. Thank you for bringing it out again. zip

Seems real simple to me.

If you like FR and want to contribute, do so. If not, don't. But, don't say Jim Robinson is ripping people off. That's absurd. How can he be ripping people off when it's a donation? It's voluntary; get it?

Otherwise it would be called taxes and it would be going to the IRS, not FR.

Thank you so much for posting this. I guess I've always been mildly curious, but this is so very personal that there are questions answered that I never would have asked. How very sad that he has had such personal tragedies to overcome and learn to live with.

I'm not an overly religious person, but I have always liked the old addage that when God closes a door, He opens a window. Maybe FReepers was JR's window.

And what little I have ever donated, I donated freely, a token amount for what I have gained from Free Republic. If JR made a multi-million dollar profit, I would not care, and would continue to contribute to a very deserving man and his enterprise.

I first learned about Free Republic when the website was given on Hannity & Colmes (I think). Just wish I had known about it during the 2000 election debacle.
