Israel, warts and all, is the only outpost of Civilization — and by that I mean real, Western civilization, not the faux Arabic/Islamist version — in the Middle East. To oppose Israel is to oppose a part of our civilization.

Jews, warts and all, are God‘s chosen people. To persecute them is to persecute God.

For these two reasons, I support Israel and oppose anti-semitism.

There has existed over the years a conspiracy to destroy the West and the Christian faith that created it — but this is no “Jewish conspiracy”; rather, it is conspiracy founded, led by, and consisting mainly of atheistic intellectuals. Since intellectualism is part and parcel of Jewish culture, it is only natural that a certain number of the God-hating people who have promoted this conspiracy over the years have sprung from that culture. From Marx, Freud, and the Bolsheviks to the Woody Allens and Peter Singers of our day, a twining vine of anti-Westernism has wound its way through cosmopolitan Jewish culture, a vine that has provided ideological support for various anti-Christian, anti-Western, and various other revolutionary endeavors. But at the root of all of this hartred for Christianity and the West lies not Jewishness, but atheism — a hatred of God and His laws.

And a Jew that hates the God of the Jews is a Jew that has abandoned everything that is truly Jewish.

Hatred of God is hardly a sin exclusive to the Jews. Voltaire was not a Jew. Neither was Mao Tse-Tung. Nor were Robespierre, Napoleon, Nero, Stalin, Weishaupt, the Spanish Reds, the dictators of Mexico, or any of the thousand of other individuals and groups throughout history who have attempted to destroy God and the Western Christian civilization established by Him. Why single out those that were Jews?

Mr. Sobran is wrong. Jews – true Jews, Jews that honor the traditions, heritage, and God of their ancestors — are not the enemy; they are the truest friends we Christians have in this world. Hatred of God is the real foe of Western civilization, and of every human being. Let‘s fight the real enemy.

You've stated things pretty well, but I tend to associate views such as Sobran's with traditionalist Catholics in the monarchist tradition, so it's nice to see that either (1) my perception is wrong; or (2) not all traditionalist Catholics are anti-Semites.

Your pro-Israel views are unfortunately not shared by other traditional Catholics like Sobran and Buchanan, and I think part of the reason is that they are very sour on contemporary American/Western society, view it as apostate, vulgar, and morally corrupt, and therefore have a secret admiration for Islamic societies in which traditional religious values remain dominant. It would not surprise me if someone like Sobran converted to Islam, seeing it as the last defense against the corruptions of modern, secular society.
