Lady...have been ranting on another thread...NOTE...for all you freepers in the northern latitudes of US...big light show in the sky. Even OK and Iowa are reporting a great show. Might want to step outside and check it out.

That's Burnt Mill Bridge... off of hwy 138 next to Silverwood Lake
To: Conservative4Ever
Oh, I'd heard about that! That's the northern-lights effect that the solar flare's giving us. I'm too far south to see it, alas... not to mention that the smoke would block it out anyhow.
As I recall, it's visible in Northern Cal, though.

I'm over here east of Mentone...I think the cloud cover even here would keep it from being a show if it did work it's way this far south.

Scanner:
"Go over and take a look... we may need to move a strike team that way... they may need the help"
"Also, Dan, the fire that's down by Silverwood... it doesn't appear that we can do much with firefighting it tonight..."
"Cedar Pines Park" (Static obscured all but the name of the location)
"That's a little bit of good news. Only thing I can think of is taking a look down there and doing any defensive firing if we have to. I know it's a long shot..."
"Doesn't look great."
"Well, let's see what we can do with the Running Springs side, and we'll see what we can do with it over there."
"(static) Fire station, about 200 yards east of (static)"
"East or west?"
(static)
"Okay, be there in a sec..."

Hmmm... looks like they're gonna let Silverwood burn and focus on the Live Oak / Manzanita Springs / Running Springs area...

Yup. My guess is that they've evacuated anyone who was near Silverwood, or else they wouldn't be moving over.
For the record, the control guy sounds completely exhausted and rather depressed on the scanners tonight.

Should be pictures of it online by now, somewhere... :)
Sigh. I'd rather be watching that than watching a big ol' cloud of icky smoke any day.

You very kindly answered me yesterday about San Diego, but I couldn't be specific about where my relatives are -- does zip code 92122 mean anything to you?
Prayers (and sometimes tears) for all of you there!

Unfortunately, no; search on USPS.gov only shows it as "San Diego", which is a big ol' city area... but as far as I know, they /should/ be safe. Most of the city of San Diego proper is.
