This massive fire loss has to be a catalyst to put an end to the actions of the enviros for the past 30 years. While most city dwellers don't get what the ranchers and rural dwellers have been worried about for years, perhaps this will make everyone take up the cause and we can have a class action lawsuit and cut these groups off once and for all.

I pray it is so!

Your post was very rational and reasonably stated -- I just sent an IM to a friend stating basically the same thing you did, but I used the "f" word twice and CAPITALIZED half the post and used !!!!!!!!! to REALLY make my F***IN' point!!!!!

A Sierra Club spokesperson was seen on ABC World News Tonight about 30 minutes ago claiming that people should not be living in these areas.

I am beginning to believe that a fundamental universal law is the constant of selfish perspective of the liberal left.

Instead of permitting freedom to create, they believe that it is their right to limit the opportunities of others.

So, who is going to save Bambi, when the people peel out? F the Sierra Club. Their 15 minutes of fame are over.

Can someone tell me where UCLA is located within LA, and where LAX is?

Our daughters are flying out to LA tomorrow.

FIRE BREAK .... ILLEGAL When did that happen? That's insane!!!

I may be wrong here, but I beleive that the poster was referring to having permanent fire breaks present before the fire occured. The firefighters are creating fire breaks where they see fit - no law will stop them if there is one. And, no policeman will arrest them for doing so. The Ff's will cut trees and bulldoze anywhere they want to stop the fire.

Nevertheless, occasional fire breaks permanently set up might have been effective in helping contain these fires. Its hard to tell when the strong winds are blowing embers about over such great distances. Heck, fire jumped a 10-lane interstate freeway the other day. That's probably as wide as any built-in fire break.

So was the 1947 Texas City blowup and the 1900 Galveston hurricane.
The Galveston thing worst was the worst in history, 6,000+ dead.

Main reason I moved up here to centex

A woman with horses near Julian called KOGO late last night and said they were packed and ready to head to Imperial Valley Fairground off I-8 east if they had too; they have made the stables, pens and stuff available for evacuees with large animals.

SUMMIT VALLEY EVACUATES
Tens of thousands flee Big Bear, Arrowhead

* * *

"Right now we're defensive. We're trying to build lines around the communities," said San Bernardino County fire Battalion Chief Sid Hultquist at Rim of the World High School, 11/2 miles outside Lake Arrowhead.

The fire's eastward push also threatened Running Springs and other small communities where there was no backfiring. The fear there was that fire could spread into a major drainage that would funnel it directly into the heart of Big Bear. The Santa Ana Wash is also home to 30 summer camps.

"If it gets in there, it's got a straight shot up to Big Bear. That's a major concern," Hultquist said.

Similarly, a drainage to the west of Lake Arrowhead was a possible route for fire to climb into that community.

Can someone tell me where UCLA is located within LA, and where LAX is? Our daughters are flying out to LA tomorrow. HELP! Q) What does HTML auto-detected mean? REVISED A) If you do not include text that looks like HTML in your reply, then your reply will post exactly as typed, including all <, > and & symbols that HTML considers special. Vertical space will be preserved, to start a new paragraph you would only need to press your Enter key twice, just as you would in a word processor. Additionally, anything that looks like a hyperlink ex. http://www.freerepublic.com/ will automatically be hyperlinked! Remember, this magic only works if you DO NOT include HTML commands. Be sure to preview your composition if this feature is new to you! Q) Why is my comment a big jumbled mess? I thought I didn't have to use HTML paragraphs? A) You probably have something in your comment that resembles an HTML command. Look for a < immediately followed by letters. Insert a space between the < and letters to remove the special HTML meaning.

UCLA is located in Westwood, about 8 (guessimate) miles from the coast. LAX south of that. They will not be near the fires.

I'm familiar with the fire breaks that used to be legal. I am wondering when, exactly, fire breaks became illegal? That is insanity.
