4 Subway stores in the San Fernando Valley have been feeding firefighters on the Simi lines.

Lots of local businesses have helped out one way or the other. The Prez of Stater Brothers kicked in $50,000 on the arsonist fund, Home Depot in Redlands is giving up their parking lot for a refugee center. Wal-Mart is kicking in as well.

Tired but allright. And happy the air quality is so much better now. I am starting to want to help the displaced folks somehow. How are you doing?

Update on Julian fire. I believe "soft closure" means to begin announcing "recommended voluntary evacuation." Someone please correct me if this is not correct understanding of the phrase. Thanks.

I also know that Wal-Mart has provided juice for firefighters, from at least one CHP posting the other day, too.

would a few daisy cutter drops to generate an instant firebreak between lake arrowhead and big bear solve the problem?

Let me also point out Food 4 Less is doing donation drives in several of their parking lots. It's good to report good news of a sort in all this tragedy. We are Californians, we are Americans and we are pulling together.

Phil Hendrie talking about no water in hydrants. Had to fill engines with water and drive up to fire.

40-50 mph winds tonight! Active fire around the ridges around Lake Arrowhead -- burning towards the east and not back on the main town of Arrowhead.

No, must be a separate arm of the fire. Arrowhead is still losing structures IIRC.

So many of the "green" groups (Sierra Club, etc.), file a lawsuit whenever a logging project is going to start. The logging could be by a private company that owns the land privately, or gov. logging. They hold it up in court forever.

The Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area in Oregon (the "biscuit" fire from last summer) was a prized area by all the greenies. It was their claim to fame because they had managed, over the last 20 years or so, to prevent any roads (dirt) to go in, or any brush clearing to be done let alone any logging (silly notion). Couldn't even manage existing roads. Completely hands off. When the fire started there was no way to stop it. There were no roads for fire crews to even get in there. It was a total loss of an incredibly beautiful places. All from their lawsuits.
