The Republican Party leadership is wildly out of control and must be reined in by the base. If you have a better idea how to do that, I'd like to hear it.New year, same crap. If the "base" was so damn strong, we would get very conservative people winning every primary. We do not because most of this "base" showed up in the late 70's and early 80's. That is about the time they kicked drugs, got jobs, found God, and started to vote. Every year we hear the whine about why they will not vote this time. OK fine, shut up and move over.
Those of us who spend every election fighting in the trenches to move the country to the right, get sick of the same BS by those who "found" themselves and became conservative!
Republican since I was 16. Conservative as hell. No time for twits!!! I will work for and vote for this President ..... while I continue to bitch about what I don't like. No one else on the national scene is as good as what we have.

I know that Senators typically never make it to the Oval Office, but I would love to see Sam Brownback run for President someday. I think he is the nicest, most considerate, and sincere, politician I have ever met.

Aww yes... the voting for the lesser of two evils argument. Ive always said there are two different type of people in life - those who settle and those who strive for greater things.

>>If they prefer to vote Democrat (who also won't address their issues), there is nothing we can do about it.
One doesn't necessarily mean the other. There are other conservative parties as options.
If Bush loses in 2004 it won't be because of the liberals, it will be because he alienated his own party's base. That's what happened to his father, so he should make an effort between now and election time to see that history doesn't repeat itself. Stick to real conservative basics.
For instance, he shouldn't wobble on things like abortion. He says he will sign the partial birth abortion ban while saying at the same time that the nation isn't ready for a total ban. Why even say something like that? To appease the liberals? They're not going to vote for him anyway.
However the unborn babies of America ARE ready for a total ban. They've been ready for that since 1973, and millions have died waiting for the Republicans to enact one.

New year, same crap. Yup. Lies, bigger government, bigger budget, bigger defecit, more entitlements, and above all, much much more constitutional violations. Just the same ol' BS.
Those of us who spend every election fighting in the trenches to move the country to the right
That's hilarious. Under your watch government has moved to the left. Great job! LOL
Look, I know it has taken a long time to get in the mess we're in, and it'll take a long time to get out. I'm not asking for everything at once. All I ask is to stop moving in the wrong direction. And that isn't happening, not by a longshot.

Also, if he signs a renewal of the AWB, I won't be voting for him, much less volunteering. Dude, get over it, that issue is so dead on arrival in the House.

But....if a Republican-controlled House and a Republican-controlled Senate and a Republican Executive cannot keep the Federal AW ban from sunsetting on time next September It's D-E-A-D. Even if a couple moderate Republicans in the northeast deserted in the House there are a few dozen Democrats who would be scared *less to vote against guns right before the election, or ever.

I hadn't thought of that; this is true! If they only knew, huh? I've already sent a donation, though small through his page. And if I can, I'll send some more!

You may not like the answer or why he said it but he was questioned about it by the media.... Here's the Q&A....
QUESTION: Sir, in your last campaign you said that the American public was not ready for a complete ban on abortion. You are about to sign legislation that will ban a certain abortion procedure known as partial-birth.
Do you believe that the climate has changed since the last campaign and all abortion should be banned?
And do you believe your brother made the correct decision in Florida when he intervened in the case of a woman who had been ordered by the courts to be taken off life support?
BUSH: Yes, I believe my brother made the right decision.
Yes, I'll sign the ban on partial-birth abortion.
And no, I don't think the culture has changed to the extent that the American people or the Congress would totally ban abortions.

Now what in that answer should the base you mention be so upset about... He was asked if he thought and he responded. Should he have lied to pander to base you talked about? Just curious

while saying at the same time that the nation isn't ready for a total ban. Why even say something like that? Where did he ever say that? You quoted a headline written by Reuters, which has a different connotation from what he actually said:
"And no, I don't think the culture has changed to the extent that the American people or the Congress would totally ban abortions."
Congress obviously wouldn't. And the American people still wouldn't; most would rather not even think about the reality of abortion.

That's hilarious. Under your watch government has moved to the left. Great job! LOL Under MY watch as you put it, without any idea what you're talking about, lets see:
Texas has moved from all dims to all Republicans. We have the Gov and all 23 state wide offices. We hold all the top court positions, both US Senators and just redistricted to get another 4-6 congressmen.
We execute prisoners, and have right to carry. My congressman is Tom DeLay and before I left Houston it was Bill Archer.
Yea I'm doing pretty well .... HOW ABOUT YOU????

those who settle and those who strive for greater things." Amen to that! Where would the conservative movement be without our true visionaries? Bump to the Hayeks, Kirks, Buckleys, Friedmans, etc., of this world.

. . . hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Name the Republican president who did ALL of the following:
1.) raised taxes barely a year after lowering them;
2.) granted amnesty to illegal aliens;
3.) signed ENHANCED abortion legislation;
4.) oversaw the LARGEST federal deficit (as percentage of the GDP) in American history;
5.) regularly derided the radical right as impossible to satisfy!
I could go on but I've made my point!
Ronald Reagan was a political pragmatist who had one overriding focus: Winning the Cold War (everything else was secondary)!
George W Bush is also a political pragmatist who has one overriding focus: Winning World War IV (EVERYTHING else is secondary)!!!!
