I have Direct TV, have a couple locals for around here, can you get locals from other areas?

Technically no, but if you have a "service address" that's outside the class B contour of your local stations, you can request (and get) Los Angeles and New York network affiliates (ABC/CBS/NBC/Fox). Once I "moved", I qualified (and got to keep my Atlanta locals).

I live far enough away from L.A. that I can't get them via air, but close enough that they're considered to be my home channels. Way back in the day, the Dishnet package included all the New York channels -- so I have both NYC and L.A. (and it's awesome).

Great idea, but doesn't always work. If you move outside the range of the directional spot antennas for one city/region you simply don't receive those signals anymore. I'm suffering from that problem now.
