The situation's changed:
Julian evacuations
10:20 a.m.
At the request of the U-S Forest Service, the Julian and Pine Hills areas are now being evacuated. The Sheriff's Dept. asks that all Julian and Pine Hills residents cooperate with deputies to insure a safe and orderly evacuation. An evacuation center will be set up at Borrego High School in Borrego Springs.

these forests are thinned now....
you know, there are some locations you see wide swaths of fire breaks...you see some on Camp Pendleton too.....they should return to those

Only fools and FFs are on the mountain. Unless you know 4x4 roads out the main roads will be jammmed up.
That's why people are dying, they want to play last-minute-itus

"KFI reported that the Forest Service is really getting concerned about the fire reaching the tops of the trees along the HWY 18 area as then the fire would leap from tree to tree in what they call topping My main concern is that the onshore flow of wind is expected this afternoon which will push the fire up the mountain. If the wind stays in a southward push, it should keep the flames below 18.
The other thing that worries me is the new voluntary evacuation for Big Bear..... and Forest Falls which is along hwy 38 Elevation: 4800 to 6200 feet Population: +or- 967 year round, 60% full time homes The population for Big Bear & Arrowhead is huge!!!

From Big Bear Website....
9:00 AM Tuesday: VOLUNTARY EVACUATION OF BIG BEAR HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED. This is due to the fire threatening Lake Arrowhead. If the Lake Arrowhead situation deteriorates, officials would like to see Big Bear Valley evacuate

The dead trees up there literally explode when fire hits them.On the bright side, it kills the damm beetles.

I think they are planning for the wind shift..that is why the evac is called, esp. with the population in that area. Just little ol' 38 to get out on.

You can also go down hwy 18, the back side to Lucerne Valley. There are also several NF roads leading out the back side like Coxey Meadows to Coyote flat

(I'm a recovering environmentalist - does anyone know of a 12-step program I can join?)
The phone number for Borrego High School is 760-767-5335 for those interested, but I just tried it and the lines are still out - as are those in Lake Henshaw, Julian, and Santa Ysabel.
