KOGO is reporting a new fire in the San Diego area. It's right next to I5 north of Encinitas.

Cause of brush fire near Encinitas...
Muffler dragging on pavement.

Match, cigarette...even a spark from a lawnmower hitting a rock have all set fires in So. CA.
With the dry brush and the dead trees it's a combustible combo.

Air is getting bad again near the beach as well.
Yesterday and earlier today were nice enough that I washed the car...now building up ash again.

A local Sacto TV station last night had a "investigative" report they ballyhooed all day. State workers with cell phones using them for personal calls. One worker ran up a bill of $1700.00 in just one month. Some of them have credit cards too. You can imagine the waste that goes on in that area. And personal usage of state vehicles... enough personal usage so that the individual doesn't have to purchase their own vehicle (or pay for gas, insurance, repairs, license, etc.)

Evacuating Big Bear! Wow! Shaking and praying for my fellow Californians up there. I'm stuck in my work cubicle in the Torrance/Gardena area. Am going home for a late lunch and to catch up with the new.

wow wonder who that was

At least two of the fires are known to have been started accidentally. Law enforcement released a composite sketch of a man seen in the area where the San Bernardino fire started. From the sketch, he looks Mexican, but he is described as white.
