I think he said the state usually pays up to 75% for these types of emergencies but he is signing something so that the state will pay 100%. We're bankrupt - it's just that no one has said so. When you have to borrow to make debt payments, you're in big trouble. We've been doing that for a while now.

It's hard to fathom what this all means.
To: WestCoastGal
We are praying for everyone to stay safe.

last I heard is an mandatory evac of forest falls and area...can you confirm... http://www.incidentcontrol.com/old/index.html
Old Fire updated at 12:00 pm 10-28-03
Mandatory and immediate evacuation for the communities:
It is now mandatory for all mountain residents to evacuate - from the top of the mountain all the way to Yucaipa. Big Bear residents are asked to use Highway 18 for evacuation. Residents of Seven Oaks, Angelus Oaks, Forest Falls, Mountain Home Village Barton Flats - use Highway 38 route for evacuations. For evacuees, an animal shelter is being set up at Horseman Park for Highway 18 evacuees.

It's hard to fathom what this all means. If the state was a person, they should cut up ALL the credit cards, cut everything that isn't absolutely necessary, and get used to the idea that there's not going to be any spending money for quite a while. Since it's CA, who knows what will happen.

Anybody see what the wind velocity and direction are up there now?
To: Conservative4Ever
Crap about Yucaipa. Hope it's ok. I just was there in the hills getting apple butter, and cinnamon apple jelly in the hills 2 weekends ago from the local orchards who produce it. Had the most intense apple cider ever there too.
It would really blow for the apple orchards to go.

question to you, Spectr..and others. If this fire heads up into Mountain Home Village and into Forest Falls...hits the opposite ridge off 38...could it burn over that ridge into Oak Glen?? By that I mean...is there enough energy in this fire to do that??

I just called friends in Yucaipa. They said people are starting to panic.... they haven't, but they've figured out what they are taking in which vehicle, so they can be ready to go quickly.
No order to evacuate yet, but the smoke is bad.

you know, there are some locations you see wide swaths of fire breaks...you see some on Camp Pendleton too.....they should return to those
On Camp Pendleton and other military installations, like Camp Beale, near me, those wide swaths are to create an open space where any possible infiltrator is more easily detected. Some years ago, Camp Pendleton made the swaths 2 and 3 times wider due to the larger and larger numbers of illegal aliens. They find evidence of them overnighting all over the base. Talk to any marine who trains there. Beale widened their swaths about 6 years ago.

I think if the winds turn going from west to east they should be ok because they are pretty far down at the base of the mountain. That, however, would be dire for Arrowhead and Big Bear.
Just took a peek at the national cable channels, if anyone watches those you would not have a clue how devastating and dire this is.
To: webvanca
where is Yucaipa? An hour and a half east.... Sorry, I don't know how to be more specific, but it's off I-10, below apple valley and arrowhead somewhere.
