Iran examines halting uranium enrichment

Tehran, Oct 27 - Iran's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) Ali Akbar Salehi here on Sunday referred to Iran's voluntary suspension of uranium enrichment temporarily to attract the world confidence and said that the issue is being further assessed to arrive at a proper decision.
Turning to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi's remarks on Iran's assessment of the temporary suspension of its uranium enrichment, Salehi said: "I can just say that Iran is currently holding consultations on the issue with IAEA."
Asefi said in his weekly press conference that Iran has stopped the process of enrichment of uranium, however his reported remarks was corrected to 'Iran is negotiating to stop the uranium enrichment process'.
"Temporary suspension of the uranium enrichment process was one of the three main points on which the four foreign ministers reached agreement in last week's Tehran conference," added Salehi.
The official noted that presentation of a complete report on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities as another focal point of "Tehran statement" is high on agenda.
"To show its good intention, Iran presented a full report on its nuclear activities to the IAEA just three days after the final statement was issued," he added.
Salehi submitted the documents on Iran's nuclear program to the agency in Vienna last weekend.
Turning to signing the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) additional protocol as another point listed in Tehran statement, he said that Iran had in the past two years stressed its readiness to sign the protocol in due course.
The three EU foreign ministers attending last week's Tehran conference pledged in their final statement that once the protocol is signed by Iran and the trend of Iran's nuclear program is approved by IAEA, they will provide the country with technical know-how.
Terming the trend of Iran-IAEA negotiations as excellent, he noted that Iran has never had any problems with the agency.
