Brush Patrol 74 just put out the fire in Granada Hills...

The unit pictured [here] is one of two LAFD Humvee's that have been in service for nearly seven years. While those cross-staffed units admittedly don't see as many responses in a day as an LAFD RA or Engine Company, they - like all LAFD Brush Patrols - are on active duty year-round. The Unit pictured was in service today [2/11/02] as Brush Patrol 47. Carrying Shop #60476, it is based out of a station in El Sereno. It's twin, Shop #60475, was staffed today by extra personnel from Fire Station 102. Serving as Brush Patrol 109, it is based out of a station on Mulholland Drive in the Encino Hills. The Humvee's have proven useful, but not to the point where we need an entire fleet. In fact there are a dozen *additional* LAFD Brush Patrol vehicles available daily, making for a fleet of 14. Mostly Ford 1T 4WD Pickups with skid-mounted pumps (and CAFS on the newest acquisitions) they are assigned to Fire Stations 8, 19, 24, 28, 35, 41, 44, 74, 83, 84, 94, 99.
