What the heck is that? (Throwing monitor in trash and replacing it?----yes, I thought about that, but I just had to spend money on a plane ticket for my daughter to come out for Christmas.....that was first, monitor is second.......and it's driving me crazy in the meantime)!

Grab it near the monitor and give it a light tug to the left, then the right, then up and then down. Do the same at the computer end. And, by all means, make sure that it is plugged in tight to the computer. Bad cables can cause loss of some colors.
After that, make an attempt to find a freeper in your area that has an older monitor. I'm almost certain that you should be able to pick up a used 15" monitor for $20 or less.
