Michael said he's been through this before, meaning through the death process, with his mother who died from cancer. He said it was her death that brought him to face up to "reality" with Terri. I don't recall hearing any mention of feeding tubes.

We mujst have misunderstood. He had lost two parents -- not that he had straved and dehydrated them. Still, it was easy to draw the wrong conclusion. He seems so cold in temperament. Notice, he said he will NEVER quit fighting to starve and dehydrate Terri.
