Am I correct in understanding that a procedure mechanically like a late-term abortion is sometimes required in cases where a fetus dies in utero and is not born?

Yes.Depending on how late, it may even be the same procedure called a "partial birth abortion." the techniques are the same, basically. It is the purpose that makes them evil or good. Like a gun or a sword or a pen or computer, or even a ball-peen hammer,it is the use, not the tool.

Partial birth abortion wouldn't be used on a baby that has died in utero. A dead baby wouldn't need his/her brain sucked out. I've had several friends lose late term babies and I think the docs usually induce labor.
