Nourishment isn't artificial.

Air isn't artificial either. But being kept alive in an iron lung is.

The fact is being feed through a feeding tube hooked up to a machine is artificial.

By definition these things are artificial. Anyone who has a living will ruling out their being sustained on a machine includes all these means.

You mean like the nipple on a bottle or the breast?

Your posts to this Internet forum are artificial as well. According to you, you are using an "artificial" means of communication. Since you have an aversion to machines in your life you should dump your computer out the window right now.

No, it does not. Ask around, hon. Many people who envision being hooked up to machines sure as hell don't want to be starved to death!

My Mom fell to 81 lbs from an illness a year and half ago. She looked god awful, the tops of her thighs weren't six inches across. She couldn't speak, was almost blind, and wore diapers. ANY NUMBER OF DOCTORS would have said "pull the plug" (she was on a feeding tube). She's 84 you see. Well, today she sat outside in the sun with my husband and ate four krystals, fries and a coke. She called me at work and sang "happy birthday" to me twice. She weights 140 lbs. Getting the picture?

What part of "she had no living will" did you not understand? What she had was that fecal-matter-masquerading-as-a-husband claiming she once told him... While he is living with another woman, and spending the money he sued for to care for her on having her killed. If she died, he owned all that money. If not, it is hers. He already spent his award.

The fact is, her husband has denied her the therapy that could enable her to swallow, thus deliberately keeping her dependent on the "artificial" tube.

i do not know if anyone pointed out to you that various living wills itemize feeding and hydration as additional or separate options to "artificial life support," but certainly here in Washington that is the case. Many people perceive "life support" as being dependent on machines for breathing, blood pressure, and so on. Just an FYI -- and a good thing to make sure anyone checks out, given Terri's experience.

How many tooth fillings do you have? Huh? One, two, half a dozen, more? They're artificial too. Hmm, let's think about that for a moment... if they weren't put in, the teeth would become even more decayed and infected. That infection would get into your blood stream and eventually kill you. Now would you like to continue having that artificial dental work in your mouth or would you like to die. Your choice. Oh, better write that down pronto (without those artificial sighting tools aka glasses/contacts) so your family will know your wishes. Felos would be glad to draft it for you.
