Just emailed the senators, and already recieved a personal email back. My first email explained that his "no" vote was dually noted, and when it came time to vote, i would remember that he voted against my handicapped child... then Mr Antone replied, then my reply back.

Heather,

I did not vote against your handicapped child. I voted against bad public policy and government deciding who lives and who doesn't. I sympathize with the family, but government should not be making decisions on whether your family member lives or dies.

Rep. Bruce Antone

You are our voice, and when we make it abundantly clear what our voice is, you have an obligation to represent that.

My daughter is fed by G`tube 21.5 hours a day, what is called a continuous feed, she would die without this machine. This story very well could have been my story, so in essence, you did vote against my child. I watched very closely last evening and today on who voted what and why. Your job was to represent the people, and you failed in that aspect.

In essence, Mr. Antone, you did vote against my child, and every other handicapped/disabled person in this state. That, sir, was the point you seemed to miss, somehow. We made it abundantly clear what our voice was, and you failed to hear it.

Respectfully,
Heather George

Your e-mails are great. Just great. If he has any heart at all, he will think about this.

Wow, does this legislator think that George W. Greer is NOT a GOVERNMENT official? He needs a civics refresher course, doesn't he?

government should not be making decisions on whether your family member lives or dies.

Only the constitution of the US and of Florida says citizens have the right to life. Of course if he meant the government shouldn't have to deal with rulings such as Terri's Bill, then he would be right 99.9% of the time. Terri's situation should never have gotten this far but for individuals' and the judicial branch's intent on taking away her right to life.

While I am thankful that this poor woman's life has been spared, I have two thoughts.

First, will all those who devoted so much activism and energy for this woman continue to uphold her and her family prayerfully and financially once this story is no longer in the news? I hope that these folks will but I rather doubt it. The family will most likely be left to bear this burden alone.

Second, will the state now be empowered to veto the decisions that I make about the health of my children, or their education and point to this legislation as a precedent? Admittedly the state has intervened in a tough situation but there's an old saying "Tough cases make bad law."

Welcome to FR, and I certainly pray for your daughter's condition. This has been an 11th hour miracle, all right! :)
