The staunchest supporter of the death penalty would not advocate that a cold-blooded killer be subjected to the death that Terri has been sentenced to.... I dunno. I can think of at least three cold-blooded killers who deserve such a death.

There may be some who deserve it, but it is just against our nature to mete out such a death, even on such ones. For most people, were we to attend such deaths, we would still be overcome by compassion for another human being, even one who had caused suffering to others. There is something fundamentally distateful about torture, and a death of starvation and dehydration would be torture.
