I don't know where you live, but where I live the economy is booming. May have something to do with the low cost of living (no state income tax) and business friendly government (also a right to work state).

Austin, TX has been home for nearly thirty years now.
Another plus for buying from individuals, is that the
fed/gov has no record of your transaction - though they're
busy working to change all that.
