I remember, as a kid, getting the Christmas catalogues and drooling over all the rifles, shotguns, and *the horror* - pistols that were freely available through the USPS, way back in the day.

Cheers.

I ordered a model 1895 Chilean Mauser, an Astra model 600 9mm pistol and a Radom 9mm all through the mail before I was 21.

The odd thing is even back then they would not send ammo through the mail and as I had ordered ammo too I had to go to railway express and pick up my guns. The guy at railway express did not ask how old I was either.

way back in the day.

Wasn't that way back. I was in my first semester, freshman year, in college, when they passed that abomination that ruined it all. It was after all, 23 years, give or take a few months, after the end of WW-II, and "only* 35 years ago. Future historians will look on the time as "the crazy years". Unless of course those historians are working strictly under government control, in which case they'll be the "golden years" that led to the then current "utopia". A utopia something on the order of North Korea perhaps?
