Best beginner rifle (Vanity)
Vanity ^ | 10-18-03 | Me

Posted on 10/18/2003 11:37:40 AM PDT by dogbyte12

I am about to finally leave the urban jungle of Los Angeles and move down to both Louisiana and South Carolina. While I do fish out here, I have only gone hunting a few times with borrowed equipment.

I am interested in starting to hunt, and would love for any freepers to give me recommendations on a good beginner rifle, something that isn't so pricey, but reliable, as well as any other gear that I will need as a beginner.

I am not a stranger to handguns, or to military rifles, I qualified expert on both a .45 and an M16, so I am not starting from scratch, but I am looking for a rifle for deer hunting basically that will not set me back too much money, yet still be a decent value. I plan to not spend that much money so it can be economical. I do know how to fabricate a carcass, and would love to hunt for meat, without the cost of hunting making it more expensive than going to the supermarket.

Any help in this regard, web sites, consumer reports, etc, would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

Considering that we had 8" pro-jo's, 2.75" rockets, and a whole bunch of other goodies on site, the MSG was quite proper in going ballistic on the butterbar.

I have a buddy here that uses a .50cal to hunt gophers.

He doesn't shoot them with the .50......he uses it like a shovel.

Sorta

Well done with the plum.

Thanks! I was a bit off at first, these are guns that live at dad's house
and not ones I practice with often. Also I have gotten too used
to having a bipod. But after 6 or 8 rounds, I got my mojo working.

I have never liked red hair although it runs in my family. My wife is also a blond, actually I think it is light brown but she thinks she is blond anyway.

I will never forget my first thought when my youngest daughter was born. When the nurse took me in to see her I took one look and thought: "Oh no!, a redhead".

I have a picture of her shooting an Hbar if I can find it I will post it.

No complaint from me... But I LMAO at Squantos' "leave it at the door" policy.

It brought back so many memories...

According to the book, an M2 is a shovel.

My God, that's child abuse!

No youngster should ever be subjected to that wimpy little 9mm cartridge. A truly caring, loving parent would get that lovely little girl a Thompson in .45 caliber no matter what the cost.

What kind of heartless bastard are you, anyway?

God, and to think I was just beginning to actually like you.......

I'm so ashamed.

Pinesol eh?
Have to try it.
Been using Ed's Red,
make it by the gallon.
1 qt. dextron/mercon auto-transmission fluid
1 qt. kerosene
1 qt. mineral spirits or terpentine
1 qt. Acetone.

Works very well although it doesn't have the female attracting powers of Hoppes #9.......

sidenote. early auto transmissions were lubed by whale oil
but during the war this became hard to get and dextron was developed, a very fine oil replacement indeed.

You can leave out the acetone and make more of a gun oil than a cleaner and you can mix lanolin in with it to make
more of a cosmolene type, thicker, stays on better.

Cost about $6 per gallon.

My enfield is a 2A1 pretty much a beater but it will still group.

Keep'em in the black.
